The ROSSIO Places vocabulary comprises toponyms, including names of geopolitical entities, landforms, buildings and other landmarks, to facilitate knowledge organisation and information retrieval on the ROSSIO platform.
The construction of the Places vocabulary is based on conventions generally followed in gazetteers and catalogues. As a general rule, the names of geographical entities contained within countries (such as districts and cities) are specified through expressions in parentheses, e.g.: “Lisbon (Portugal)”.
ROSSIO Places is part of the ROSSIO vocabularies, which includes vocabularies of topics in social sciences, arts and humanities (ROSSIO Thesaurus), people and organisations (ROSSIO Agents) and periods (ROSSIO Periods).
